Entrepreneurs

What do you do when you become tired of purchasing makeup that doesn't fit you that well and is also overpriced? You make your own! Check out my interview with Glam R Face's/ Pink Stiletto's own Crystal Carmen!

GG: Congratulations on being a self-made entrepreneur! How did you make the leap from "I like this makeup" to "I want to make my OWN makeup"?

CC: I loved using makeup but the colors were dull. The brands that did boast loud colors were loud in relation but still not enough. It just didn't speak to me. As a bi-racial woman who fell in between foundation shades all the time, I was often prompted  to purchase 2 jars at 49.50?! Insanity! Eyeshadows and blushes looked faded and chalky on myself and on my clients. I felt like why talk about it; change it! I am in the process of doing that now. I want to change makeup as we know it! The world is full of different women and skin-tones. I want a makeup that looks a beautiful on one woman from one part of the world as it does on another. Universal Beauty; Universal Makeup.

GG: How would you describe your signature look?

CC: Smokey eyes but with colors... Blue Smokey eyes, Bronzed Cheeks and Nude lips!

GG: What are your favorite trends this season?

CC: Red or Berry Lips! Caliente!!!!!

GG: What trend would you most like to see disappear?

CC: Hmm... Uggs and Cut Crease Eyes for every look.

GG: Describe the moment when you "made it".

CC: I don't feel I have yet. When Sam Fine knows what Pink Stiletto Cosmetics is ... then maybe I can say it then... LOL!

GG: Who is your muse?

CC: Coco Chanel, Kevin Aucoin and Sam Fine!

GG: Where are your favorite indie places to shop?

CC: GirlKhandie, Chyna Doll Collection, Juicy Luci  and Glam Realitee to name a few.

GG: What are your MUST HAVE items?

CC: My Scandalous Lip Whip(Makes you feel sexy all the time), Mascara and a bottle of Smart Water.

GG: Do you have any style tips catered specifically for Plus Sized women?

CC: Don't wear clothes that are too big. You will not look a pound slimmer by wearing bulky clothing.

Buy your size.

Don't wear clothes that are too small. If you have to tug at your skirt or tuck in a nipple, you are dressed for Bedtime, not FUN-time.

DO NOT EVER WEAR FLATS AND A SKIRT OR FLATS AND SKINNY JEANS. It looks a mess.

Wear supportive underwear.

Buy a good bra. Your breasts should sitting at  the top of your rib cage.

If you are wearing a slim fit dress, wear a dress shaper or slip body shaper.

Wear your pants at belly button level.

Wear heels; it slims the silhouette!

Don't shop at just one store... mix and match from the plus shops that are available. Style is being able to wear a Wal-Mart blouse with a Marc Jacobs Plus Blazer and look sensational!

GG: What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?

CC: My Gray hat! All I do is add a flower clip or a brooch and it's so versatile, day or night, casual or fancy!

GG: What is the foundation of an unabridged wardrobe?

CC: A Little Black Dress
A Sequined Blouse
An A- Line Skirt
A Platform heel
A Wide Leg Trouser
Textured tights
Cardigan
Wide Belt
Fancy Flats
Silk Scarf
Clutch
Big Carry All
Great fitting jeans
Camisole
Tube Top
Shawl top
Something Red
Something Animal Print
Anything Pink!

GG: Where in the world would you love to go shopping?

CC:Paris!

GG: Looking back, what would you say would be your biggest fashion DON'T?

CC: High Heeled Sneakers when I was 16, The Shaved Side look!

GG: What are some tips to keeping a look timeless?

CC: Don't over-accessorize. Add trend with your accessories; not power pieces.  Don't over match!  If you can't see yourself wearing it next year.. skip it.

GG: Fashion often makes Plus Size look like it's not "fashionably correct". What's your philosophy on size and style?

CC: Find a way to make it work.  I use nighties in a size or two smaller as long camisoles to layer my clothing and keep my look streamlined. I use plus size corsets over Cami's and button downs. I also buy one size larger in medium width shoes and add a slip grip to the back. Another trick: I shop for maternity tops 2 sizes too small and then belt them!
